Focus on Literacy

Pelham City Schools is focused on improving literacy throughout the district. As former recipients of the Striving Reader Grant, Pelham Elementary School and Pelham City Middle School were required to screen students in grades 3-8 three times a year to identify their individual Lexile score.  Due to the district initiative to improve literacy, students enrolled in Pelham High School also participated in this screening. The Reading Inventory (RI, formerly SRI) continues to be used as the universal screener.

The target Lexile scores, by grade, are listed below:

3rd--670

4th--840

5th--920

6th--997

7th--1045

8th--1097

9th--1155

11th--1285
