The Pelham City Schools Board of Education today announces its intention to rollback the millage rate for 2019.
The budget adopted by the Pelham City Board of Education requires an ad valorem millage rate of 9.974 mils which is .541 mils lower than the 2018 millage rate of 10.515. A major portion of the local revenue provided to Pelham City Schools comes from the Local Option Sales Tax (LOST). Due to an increase in LOST revenue, Pelham City Schools is able to “roll back” the ad valorem millage rate from last year.
The Board of Education continues to strive to provide an excellent education to the children in our area while also continuing to monitor expenses. Now operating as a Charter System, we believe that we have highly operational governance teams, a very rigorous curriculum and well trained teachers and administrators that do a tremendous job of serving our children. We also strive to provide numerous clubs and activities in addition to one of the top athletic programs in this part of the State.
As a Board, we are very mindful of expenses. However, we also recognize the need to improve and maintain the investment in our facilities. Over the next couple of years we will be working to modernize our elementary school and middle school. We will start with the elementary school in just a few short weeks. In fact, on Thursday, September 26th at 6:00 P.M. we will have a ground breaking for the Pelham Elementary School modernization.
Afterwards, at 6:30 P.M. in the school cafeteria, the Pelham Board of Education will host a called meeting and community work session where our contractor will provide a scope of the work that will be done. In addition, during the called meeting our Board will adopt the 5 year history and set the millage rate for 2019. All citizens are invited to attend.
