Focus on Literacy
Pelham City Schools is focused on improving literacy throughout the district. Pelham Elementary School and Pelham City Middle School are both recipients of the Striving Reader Grant. As part of this grant, students in grades 3-8 will be universally screened three times a year to identify their individual Lexile score. Due to the district initiative to improve literacy, students enrolled in Pelham High School will also participate in this screening. Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI) will be used as the universal screener.
The district goal for improving literacy is:
As a district, we will increase the percentage of students who reached the CCRPI Lexile targets in third, fifth, eighth, and eleventh grade by 4 percentage points in SY16.
