The 2018-19 school year will be one of the most highly anticipated school years in recent years at Pelham High School (PHS) due to some significant changes and because of expectations based on recent successes. The faculty, staff, and administration would like to remind all parents and guardians that at PHS the door is ALWAYS open for individuals seeking a first class educational experience for their students. If as a parent/guardian you are interested in seeing how PHS is on the cutting edge of ensuring graduates are ready for the 21st century please call (229) 294-8623 and make an appointment to talk with an administrator about enrolling your child in the System of Choice. The following synopsis will give you a glimpse into what is happening at PHS.
First, the most significant change is that PHS will be operating as a College and Career Academy when the doors are opened this school year. What does this mean for your child? Meetings were held with business leaders all across our area and they were asked what skills students needed to be employable. Our business partners’ input led to curriculum changes in all CTAE classes (Ag Mechanics, Welding, Nursing (CNA), Business, Marketing, and Digital Design to name a few). Additional course offerings will likely be added in the near future and “soft skills” will be taught in all academic areas. In short, at PHS what the faculty and staff will be teaching in the future will be aimed at ensuring students can either successfully enter the workforce upon graduation or continue their education at a technical college, local college, or a university.
Of course our focus at PHS is on the whole child so we have worked diligently to build successful extra-curricular programs. Just last school year our football, boys and girls basketball, baseball, and boys and girls track teams all made the state playoffs! We will soon be opening the doors to a state of the art training facility for all of our students to use. One of the features is an indoor turf field that can be utilized by ALL athletes. Our FFA chapters at both the high school and middle school were recently recognized as the Area Five state chapters of the year. Our FCCLA and FBLA chapters have recently competed at both the state and national level. The PHS band continues to be a source of community pride. The faculty and staff at PHS works daily to equip students with the skills needed to be successful. This is proven due to the fact that the components of our CCRPI score at PHS rank at the top of our local RESA and are at or above the state level in many categories. This is a testament to the dedication and skill of our highly qualified faculty and staff. In closing, we want your student to be a part of the PHS family if he or she wants to be a part of what is described above.
